Argus launches Turkish electricity market coverage
London, 4 August 2011
International energy price reporting service Argus is extending its coverage of electricity markets to include Turkey from today. The expansion comes in response to growing demand for unbiased and independent information on wholesale prices, regulation and market developments in Turkey as investment in power generation and involvement in spot trading gather pace in the country’s liberalising energy sector.
Rising electricity demand in Turkey is being driven by a rapidly expanding economy. At the same time, Turkey has the geography and underlying domestic demand to emerge as a pivotal hub that will play a key role in transporting Caspian and potentially Middle Eastern gas to western markets. The country already plays a role in the nascent spot LNG market.
Argus’ coverage of Turkey’s electricity market includes new weekly over-the-counter price assessments for forward contracts out to one year ahead, detailed market commentary, a project tracker showing the status of new generation projects, and regulatory and market news. Argus applies a robust methodology to price assessments, fitting them for use in contract pricing, risk management functions and investment planning.
Coverage of the Turkish electricity market will be available online and in the expanding southeast Europe section of the daily Argus European Electricity report, providing subscribers with regional context through coverage of other key markets including Romania and Greece.
“The development of a traded market for wholesale electricity in Turkey is critical as investors seek reliable price signals and suppliers develop risk management strategies to cope with an increasingly competitive environment,” said Adrian Binks, chief executive and chairman of Argus Media. “Argus is pleased to be in a position to help drive that development through reliable and robust price discovery and reporting by its experienced team of electricity specialists.”
