Bacanora Minerals

Bacanora Minerals (AIM: BCN) have the right asset to help plug the looming lithium supply crunch, and is also the most advanced lithium company listed on the London market. The Company has already proved that its flagship Sonora Lithium Project in Mexico is one of the world’s larger deposits with an Indicated Mineral Resource of 4.5 million tonnes and 2.7 million tonnes Inferred of lithium resources. It has also proved that high quality battery grade lithium can be produced at Sonora thanks to its pilot plant which for the last two years has been continuously producing LCE samples for distribution to potential end customers and offtake partners. This has considerably de-risked the project and helped Bacanora secure an offtake agreement with Japanese based Hanwa, one of the world’s largest traders of battery chemicals. Hanwa acquired a 10% stake in Bacanora, joining other institutional investors such as Blackrock and M&G on the shareholder register. With a Feasibility Study expected to shortly confirm that Sonora occupies a favourable position on the industry cost curve, and with strategic partner Hanwa facilitating discussions in Japan for long-term project debt funding in tandem with ongoing discussions with traditional debt providers, Bacanora is at a tipping point.

Once the FS is completed in Q4 2017, the Company intends to hit the ground running and move to the construction phase to deliver a mine capable of producing 17,500 tonnes per year of high quality battery-grade Li2CO3 for the first two years, followed by an expansion of the operations to 35,000 tonnes Li2CO3 per year.
