Daniel Gad, Owner, Omega Farms

Daniel Gad is an entrepreneur and commercial farmer from Ethiopia. Previously, he worked for a major corporation (AT&T) in the telecommunications industry in the United States where his last assignment was as Vice President and Client Partner in the company. In 2003 Mr. Gad decided to leave his post at AT&T and return home to Ethiopia. Since his return he has developed (and sold) a 28 hectare premium rose farm (MetroLux Flowers), playing a pivotal role in the success story of the Ethiopian floriculture industry, which over five years created 300,000 jobs. He now owns, manages and operates a high-value vegetable production farm (Omega Farms) exporting pre-packed vegetables to UK and EU supermarkets, playing a leading role in a nascent effort to replicate Ethiopia’s floriculture success in horticulture, with its potential for even larger impac

 Chief Investment Officer, International Finance Corporation

Kalim M. Shah is Chief Investment Officer at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector investment entity of the World Bank Group.  He is responsible for the IFC’s investments in downstream oil and gas projects for sub-Saharan Africa. Kalim has over 25 years’ experience in corporate and commercial banking, project finance and financial analysis with an emphasis on the downstream, manufacturing, financial and agribusiness sectors. Kalim has been with the IFC for 17 years. He has country experience in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, south Asia, the Middle East and north Africa, Canada and the US.  Kalim holds an MBA and a BSc degree in mechanical engineering from Queen’s University, Canada.
