Poland's Lotos to take first US crude cargo

Warsaw, 24 October (Argus) — Polish oil company Grupa Lotos is to take its first cargo of US crude next month.

Lotos' 210,000 b/d Gdansk refinery is the likely recipient of a 73,000t cargo that departed Freeport, Texas, last week on the St Helen. The tanker is scheduled to arrive in Gdansk on November 10.

Lotos did not confirm it is the recipient but said it would "answer questions" about the cargo during its third-quarter results press conference on 26 October.

Polish company PKN Orlen, which operates the 327,000 b/d Plock refinery and can import crude through Gdansk, said it is not the recipient of the cargo.

Polish oil companies started to import crude from the US earlier this month. PKN Orlen purchased a 145,000t light sweet WTI crude cargo loaded at Houston.

Lotos and PKN are diversifying their crude supplies. In September, Lotos bought its first cargo of Canadian crude.
