EIA to temporarily stay open during shutdown
Washington, 22 January (Argus) — The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) will continue releasing energy reports and collecting data during the partial US government shutdown but only for a "short period."
Many federal agencies closed and thousands of workers were furloughed on 20 January after the US Congress failed to agree on a short-term funding agreement. But some government offices have remained open by tapping into unspent funds.
EIA says it will continue to update its website and release publications under its regular schedule. The agency said it was unable to provide an estimate for how much longer it could remain operational but said it would post an update on its website if its status changed.
EIA is set to publish its weekly gasoline and diesel fuel update this afternoon. It is scheduled to publish its weekly petroleum report and monthly electric power report on 24 January. Its weekly natural gas storage and coal production reports are scheduled for release on 25 January.
EIA said respondents to its energy data collection program should continue to submit reports as scheduled.
