Thackaringa cobalt resource rises
Perth, 19 March (Argus) — Australian mine developer Cobalt Blue Holdings has increased its estimated cobalt metal contained within the Thackaringa project in New South Wales.
The project's Railway Hill, Pyrite Hill and Big Hill cobalt deposits were increased by 23pc to 61,000t, while its estimated ore tonnage rose by 31pc to 72mn t, grading 852 parts per million cobalt.
A completed maiden ore reserve and pre-feasibility study are expected by the end of June.
Thackaringa is on target to become a world class project with metallurgical testwork highlighting 88pc cobalt recoveries from ore to payable product, the company said.
Cobalt Blue is one of several Australian companies aiming to produce cobalt to take advantage of a boom in battery metals, driven by increased demand for electric vehicles and energy storage.
