Polish wind generation outstrips lignite

London, 27 December (Argus) — Wind power generation in Poland was higher than lignite-fired generation for four consecutive days over the Christmas period.

Wind output was higher than lignite-fired output on 23-26 December. Low holiday demand meant wind took its largest share of the generation mix this year, at 32.6pc on 24 December.

This is the longest wind has held a larger share of the generation mix than lignite. Wind peaked at 4.86GW on average on 24 December, while lignite-fired was at just 2.39GW. Hard coal remained the largest source of generation at 6.1GW.

Poland had 5.85GW of installed wind generation capacity at the end of September, energy regulator URE data show.
