Leach XPress gas line approved to begin flows

Houston, 28 December (Argus) — Columbia Gas Transmission's 1.5 Bcf/d (42mn m³/d) Leach XPress pipeline project should begin flows on 1 January.

The $1.4bn project will transport gas from West Virginia and Pennsylvania into Ohio and to an interconnection with the Columbia Gulf pipeline near Leach, Kentucky.

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) today authorized the project to start service. Columbia Gas earlier this week had filed supplementary information to request authorization, saying the project would be able to commercially flow gas after commissioning is completed on 1 January as it has further completed construction and winterization for the project's facilities.

Leach XPress was originally scheduled to come on line last month, but the in-service date was delayed to early January because of anticipated wintertime working conditions and a limited construction window.

Independent producer Range Resources earlier this year said it expects its natural gas sales discount to the Henry Hub to narrow significantly next year amid increased pipeline takeaway capacity, including capacity on Leach XPress. Range has firm transportation on the project.
