Houston, 26 July (Argus) — Tallulah Gas Storage won the go-ahead to drill two stratigraphic test wells to evaluate a salt dome for potential storage in Madison Parish, Louisiana, after the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) exempted it from the normal regulatory requirements.

The well tests will determine the feasibility of developing the south Tallulah salt dome for natural gas storage, according to the request for exemption filed with FERC on 11 June. The test wells will help determine the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of the facility.

The authorization is only granted for temporary exploratory activities to obtain the data, FERC said in the exemption. The proposed facility would have capacity of 24 Bcf.
