Saudi Aramco-Sinopec joint-venture Yasref is ramping up diesel exports to Europe from its 400,000 b/d Yanbu refinery in Saudi Arabia. The refinery is now producing diesel that meets European specifications, and several shipments have been made to Europe this month.

Switzerland-based trading firm Glencore has a term contract to buy diesel cargoes from Yasref's plant and will lift either one medium-range cargo a month or two cargoes each quarter. The company provisionally booked at least one 80,000t cargo from Yanbu loading around 20-22 June, and a 90,000t cargo for late June loading, according to shipping lists. Both bookings had options on delivery, including to northwest Europe. Litasco took a 90,000t cargo from the refinery on 8 June on board the STI Madison, but the cargo was delivered within the region.

Aramco and Unipec are also both taking diesel cargoes from Yasref's Yanbu refinery to Europe. Unipec provisionally booked the Minerva Indiana to take an 80,000t diesel cargo from Yanbu, loading 11 July for $2.6mn, according to shipping lists. The cargo had options on delivery, including to northwest Europe.

The refinery sent a single gasoil shipment to Europe in April, but it did not fully meet European specifications. No further exports were seen until this month. Diesel from the plant did not previously meet the required density for the European market, but this issue has now been resolved.

jb/ts

Send comments to feedback@argusmedia.com

Request more information about Argus' energy and commodity news, data and analysis services.

Copyright © 2015 Argus Media Ltd - www.argusmedia.com - All rights reserved.
