Jaanus Aun is a chairman of Private Forest Centre, a foundation established to offer advice and support to Estonia’s private forestry industry. Mr Aun joined Private Forest Centre in 2008. From 2005 to 2008, he was a procurement director at Metsä Forest’s Estonian branch, where he was responsible for wood deliveries to Estonian sawmills and the pulp division of parent company Metsä Group. In 2002-06, Mr Aun was Chairman at Private Forest Union, an organisation established by private forest owners to represent their interests in the context of rural development. Mr Aun graduated with a law degree from Estonia’s University of Tartu and has acted in a legal capacity advising forest owners. He has lectured on legal issues related to forestry, including property rights, taxation and contract law. Mr Aun is an author of a comprehensive legal handbook for forest owners and has contributed to the content of many brochures on private forest management. He speaks Estonian, English, Finnish and Russian.

Shamsher Khan is an energy professional with more than 18 years of experience in one of the biggest energy companies in the Nordic countries. His main focus has been on energy production, risk management and retailing in the electricity and heat businesses. The district heating and cooling network in Stockholm is among the largest in the world where real-time optimisation opportunities arise from highly volatile commoditity prices. The main fuels in base production are municipality waste incineration and wood chips. Shamsher has been responsible for running this organisation for the past 10 years. In addition to leading an organisation of more than 50 managers and experts he has played an important role in building a competitive district heating business from an asset optimisation perspective where fuel price and volume risks play a decisive role. Stockholm Exergi has been investing heavily in combined heat and power in the past 10 years to upgrade its old asset fleet and to reach ambitious environmental targets of 100pc heat and electricity production from recycled and/or biofuels by 2030.

Before joining Falkenbergs Returflis AB in 2013, Mario was an In-house Consultant in Global Logistics in the construction industry, and prior to that he was involved in the export of paper and pulp from Scandinavia. He holds a BSc degree in supply chains at WWU Munster in Germany, and an MBA at the Nordakademie Graduate School.

He mainly works on pellet issues such as ENplus certification management, market data, pellet safety and communication. His background is as an industrial engineer with a specialisation in agriculture and the environment. He previously spent more than two years working as a project engineer for a Belgian agropellets producer. He was in charge of R&D before assuming responsibility for agropellets formulation and sales. Gilles later worked for Belgian biomass association ValBiom, initially in charge of energy crops and wood pellets, before becoming the association’s co-ordinator.

Bengt-Erik Löfgren is Co-ordinator of the Swedish Pellet Association and chief executive and founder of ÄFAB in Sweden, and since 1984 has worked in the borderland between academia and enterprise. Bengt-Erik is one of the best-known experts in small and medium-scale bioenergy in Sweden and has worked in the front line of the bioenergy industry for more than 30 years. He has founded several companies and organisations that are working to create new business opportunities, particularly for SMEs. He has been involved in many types of committees, from making new EN standards for pellet burners to distributing government grants. Bengt-Erik provides a link between researchers in universities and business, and between government and end users. His closest network includes most of the companies that represent the major part of the Swedish bioenergy industry.
