Mr. A S Prabhakar is a person who is very passionate about Bitumen. He is presently the Deputy General Manager, Bitumen and handles all the bitumen related activities at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), an integrated petroleum refining and marketing company in India.
He is a Civil Engineering graduate from the prestigious IIT-BHU and has been with HPCL for more than 30 years. In HPCL, he has handled bitumen and bituminous products in various capacities for more than 20 years.
He has also served as the Chief Operating Officer of Hindustan Colas Ltd., a joint venture of HPCL and Colas SA, which is into the business of manufacturing and marketing Value Added Bituminous Binders like Bitumen Emulsions and Modified Bitumens.
In HPCL and in Hindustan Colas he has undertaken numerous initiatives in the field of Bitumen Quality, development of new Products and Processes, Product Placement Cost optimization and development of Flexible Product Placement Model to place optimum product at the right locations considering the seasonal variations in demand across various geographies in India. In 2009 he accepted a position as Commercial Manager with National Asphalt (part of the Raubex Group) in 2009. The acquisition of Tosas by the Raubex Group in 2013 led to his appointment as Managing Director. Tosas is the largest supplier of modified bitumen’s and emulsions in southern Africa and owns a large fleet of bitumen distributors, rubber bitumen and polymer modifier plants.
Deon is currently also Chairman of the Sabita Board and served in that position before and through the transition period from the major Oil Companies being main sponsors to the current stakeholder position.
