Caspian and central Asian market trends were discussed at the Argus conference in Abu Dhabi

The “Argus Caspian and Central Asian Petroleum Markets 2019” conference was held on 30―31 January in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The conference was held for the seventh time, becoming the key event in the region for many market participants. It brought together top managers of major international oil, trading and transportation and logistics companies from Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, eastern Europe and other regions. The participants included representatives of such companies as Total, Litasco, Vitol, Socar Trading, GOGC, Tatneftekhim and many others.

The conference was supported by the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan (SCRMET), Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry and the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan’s Finance Ministry. The event sponsor this year was SA Global Trading FZC, one of the leading exporters of Turkmen fertilizers.

The first day of the conference began with a talk from Timur Ilyasov, Argus’ vice-president for central Asia and the Caspian region, who gave a report on to the oil market of central Asia.

The topic was continued by Samat Mergenov, chief expert at the Department of Petroleum Industry Development of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, who spoke about the current state and prospects of the crude and oil products market in Kazakhstan.

Argus editor Rauf Guseynov delivered a presentation on the important topic of shipments to Iran from the Caspian region. The key results of 2018 and the prospects of the region in the current year were covered in the presentation. In particular, the participants discussed supplies of fuel and petrochemical products from Iran to central Asia and Afghanistan.

The second session of the first day focused on the Turkmen market of oil products, petrochemicals and fertilizers.

During this session, SCRMET’s Department of Analysis and New Technologies head, Serdar Berdiyev, shared the experience of exchange trade in oil products and petrochemicals in Turkmenistan.

The situation with the supply of fertilizers from Turkmenistan was commented on by SA Global Trading managing director Murat Annamyradov.

Representatives of the Marine Merchant Fleet CJSC and Turkmenistan’s Transportation and Logistics Centre covered the transportation sector and transportation and logistics opportunities in Turkmenistan.

Oxus Energy General Trading representative Gulnar Kulnazarova spoke about Afghanistan’s crude and oil products market during the session dedicated to the oil market of central Asian countries.

A seminar was held on transfer pricing at the end of the first day, which was attended by members of the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan’s Finance Ministry .

Transportation in the Caspian region and central Asian countries was discussed on the second day. Prospects for the supply of new and additional cargoes, specifically grain, attracting additional cargo traffic and the development of routes through the central Asian region in the Asia―Europe direction were addressed.
