Stephan is the president of the Council of Afeevas (Association of Emission Control Equipment Manufacturers) and vice-president and general manager of automotive catalysts at Umicore Brazil. His main responsibilities at Umicore are growing the company's business in South America and providing the company’s customers with best-value solutions. Stephan started his career in 1987 at chemicals group Degussa in Hanau, Germany, in the field of stationary emission control catalyst development and application for different types of power generation plants. After five years in the field he was promoted to manager of the automotive emission control catalyst test centre. In 2001, Stephan became responsible for the industrial operations of the factory in Americana, SP and became Americana plant manager in 2004. He gained his degree in mechanical engineering from the Technical University in Darmstadt (Germany) and went on to complete an executive MBA in business management from Fundacao Getulio Vargas. Stephan is also involved in a number of industry associations, including the AEA (Association of Automotive Engineers), the IQA (Institute for Automotive Quality), Sindipeças (Syndicate of the auto parts manufacturers) and the ABNT (Brazilian Norms Association), either on their advisory boards or as executive director.

Gianni López is a mechanical engineer and has a master’s degree in management and technological entrepreneurship. Gianni has more than 20 years’ experience in environmental management and environmental technology deployment in Chile and Latin America. In 2004 he co-founded the Mario Molina Center – Chile (CMMCh), sponsored by Professor Mario Molina, winner of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1995. He is also a member of the Board of Directors at the centre that specialises in R&D in energy and environment, working in Chile and South America. He was formerly superintendent of vehicle technology at CETESB, for 20 years, where he served as co-ordinator of development and implementation of the PROCONVE emissions standards programme, which has reduced more than 90pc of vehicular emissions, and awarded several honours by major institutions involved in this scheme. He was also professor of internal combustion engines at the Polytechnic School, and engine development engineer at Ford in Brazil.

Fábio is a specialist in vehicle fleet inspection and emission monitoring programmes, and has published several papers on this subject and on the analysis and correlation of emissions data collected by remote sensing and tests on dynamometer and real traffic.
