Panagiota (Penny) Dilara is a chemical engineer with a master’s and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where her work focused on catalysis and surface science. She worked for 20 years at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre in Italy in the fields of transport and energy, conducting research and leading groups of scientists working on particle measurements, air quality modelling, emissions inventories, road transport and electromobility modelling. In 2015 she joined the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG-GROW) at the European Commission. She currently heads the Clean Vehicles Team, which is responsible for development of the real driving emissions (RDE) test in Europe and globally, and leads the development of emissions legislation in Europe. She has produced seven pieces of EU legislation, contributed to many others, and written 32 scientific papers. Read less

As head of OEM partnerships, Mats’ key responsibility at Neste is to develop and orchestrate collaborations and partnerships with vehicle manufacturers. With 20 years’ experience in the vehicle industry, he has served in a variety of roles internationally, including tech centre manager, sales director and site manager. Neste is the world's largest producer of renewable diesel and renewable fuels from waste and residues. Stefan is globally responsible for the additives for V-Power and FuelSave and AdBlue supplied at 45,000 retail sites, serving 30mn customers a day, through 500,000 front-line colleagues across 70 countries. Since the fourth quarter of 2019 he has also been driving the roll-out of AdBlue tank solutions for passenger cars at more than 500 retail sites in Germany and other European countries. Stefan has been working for Shell more than 20 years in various business units in Exploration and Downstream (Lubricants – base oils, bitumen, sulphur, refining, trading and supply and retail). Stefan is based in Hamburg, Germany. He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and three children, dog and horse. Dimitrios has a doctorate in road transport emissions in the real world. He has a degree in automotive engineering and master's degrees in mechanical engineering and in transport engine emissions from the University of Leeds in the UK. Since December 2013 he has been working for the European Commission’s Directorate General For Climate Action, as a Policy Officer responsible for heavy duty vehicle CO2 emissions and the VECTO simulation tool. He worked at the commission’s Directorate General For Enterprise and Industry from 2010-12, dealing with the Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) Directive 97/68/EC on engine emissions. Dimitrios was offered a permanent post at the Directorate General for Transport and Communications in Greece in 2007. He spent 2001-03 as a Homologation Engineer at Iveco-Ford in the UK, responsible for European and national type approvals. He joined the University of Antwerp as a Senior Lecturer in 2012, and was mainly occupied in carrying out high-quality research, developing research programmes and producing publications in the field of IC Engines, automotive driveline and alternative fuels. He has lectured widely to academic and industrial audiences throughout Europe and published more than 50 scientific papers for various journals/conferences/symposiums/workshops. Dimitrios is the author of a book entitled Modern Braking Systems and Safety, while a number of his articles/interviews have been published in newspapers and presented on TV. Read less

David’s team of engineers and scientists have a broad remit covering pollutant emissions through to noise standards and engage with international working groups developing type approval regulations. David has a background in development of emission control technologies for light and heavy-duty vehicles and works closely with the UK market surveillance unit in its annual emissions testing campaign. René Jensen has worked for the Danish Road Traffic Authority since 2016, where today he plays a key role as Team Leader and lead technical expert for the department for automotive engineering. The Danish Road Traffic Authority is responsible for issues including the regulation of road worthiness, vehicle approvals and technical requirements for vehicles. Among the many significant issues in the department, is the development of a scheme for a more effective cross-national control of AdBlue manipulation in lorries. Before coming to the agency, Rene held a number of roles in the vehicle industry, including as a lecturer in automotive engineering — where he still functions as an external examiner — as a maintenance supervisor in aviation, as a manager in the vehicle repair industry, and as a professional in the development of vehicles for motor sport. Marc joined Imperial as a lecturer in 2015 and now leads its Transport and Environment Laboratory. His research focuses on evaluating and reducing the effect of transport activity on climate change and air pollution, with a view to a greater understanding of sources of greenhouse gases and pollutant emissions. Dr Toni Kinnunen is is an expert in emissions aftertreatment, with a track record of technological collaboration with OEM and tier-one companies. He has over 16 years’ experience in developing emission control technologies, research and development, and sales. Before joining Proventia, he held various positions at Ecocat and Dinex. Toni received a doctoral degree in physical chemistry from Finland’s University of Joensuu in 2002, has authored some 40 scientific articles and now gives conference presentations on emissions control technologies. Jeff Diestelmeier is Chief System Designer for Watlow, responsible for global business strategy and product development for the company’s diesel emissions business. His primary area of focus is developing breakthrough thermal technologies for improved engine and aftertreatment system performance. Jeff has been with Watlow for 10 years and previously held the positions of Business Segment Manager and Value Stream Leader. Prior to joining Watlow, he worked for the aircraft engine systems division of Woodward for 18 years, fulfilling numerous roles including Plant Chemist, Materials Engineer, Operations Manager, Director of Quality, and Director of Purchasing. Nils received his diploma in industrial engineering and management with a focus on automotive engineering and innovation management in 2011 after studies at RWTH Aachen University (Germany) and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) Stockholm, Sweden. After receiving a diploma, he became research associate at RWTH’s institute for automotive engineering (Ika). His research focus and interest was in vehicle electrification, market modelling and technology portfolio planning, while he was involved in several technology consulting projects with the industry. After five years Nils left the research sector to be a senior consultant at Fka. He received his doctoral degree (Dr.-Ing.) from RWTH Aachen University with a work on “vehicle portfolio planning against the background of the European CO2 Regulation”. He has been Market and Efficiency Strategies Manager at Fka since 2018 and leads a team of five consultants focused on electro mobility, CO2 compliance, sustainability strategies and quantitative market modelling. Through the recent acquisition of local competitor O.M.R., Argus Media has become the key provider of benchmark prices used to supply the vast majority of petrol stations in Germany, with an audience that is likely to include all AdBlue retailers in the country. As such, Hagen is keen to extend Argus Media’s portfolio to cover AdBlue prices for truck pick up pick-up in Europe and news on the AdBlue market. A native of Cologne, Hagen worked for various German news outlets including WDR, DLF and Handelsblatt before moving to London to work for Argus Media in 2014. Professor Zissis Samaras is the Director of the lab of applied thermodynamics at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece. His research work primarily deals with engine and vehicle emissions testing and modelling. He has provided expert advice to a number of organisations and private-sector customers, including the World Bank, ACEA and CONCAWE. Zissis has co-ordinated large European projects, including on particulate characterisation, ICT impact on emissions and OBD systems. He is an elected academic member and Vice-Chairman of the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC) on energy, environment and resources. Alessandro joined FuelsEurope in 2011, and is responsible for its advocacy activities. He is based at the FuelsEurope office in Brussels. Alessandro started his career at Eni, which he joined in 1986, gaining extensive international experience in the Refining and Marketing (R&M) sector of the oil industry. He worked as a refinery technologist in Italy (Livorno) and in Germany (Ingolstadt), then as Project and Investment Planner in Eni’s Rome headquarters. He then held the position of Operating and Planning Director for Czech Refining (Czech Republic). In 2000 he relocated to the US, as chief executive of American Agip, an affiliate of Eni engaged in oil products trading and the marketing of lubricants. He then covered the position of chief executive for Agip Deutschland, the German commercial affiliate of Eni R&M, active in retail (petrol stations), wholesale and refining (as a shareholder in the joint-venture refineries of Schwedt and Vohburg/Neustadt). Alessandro then returned to Eni in Italy, first as Retail Business Development and M&A Head for Europe, and then as Chief Technical Executive in the Livorno Refinery. Lennart Lindholm has worked at Volvo Cars and Volvo Heavy Duty for 29 years, and spent the past 17 working with the on-board diagnostics (OBD) team. Lennart is the Technology Specialist in Legislative Diagnostics at Volvo Global Trucks Technology, and has been the project manager for a large part of Volvo’s OBD development work in Europe, the US and Japan. He represents Volvo Global Trucks Technology for OBD in the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA) and the Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA), and has a BSc in mechanical engineering.
