Andy has worked in the UK Organics and Alternative Fuels sectors for over 11 years, with the last nine years at SUEZ recycling and recovery UK. Andy’s particular focus is on the commercial development of alternative fuels for the wood, RDF and SRF markets, requiring development of fuel production facilities and associated supply chains including logistics, ports and shipping. This has culminated in the establishment of over half a million tonnes of alternative fuels supply to a number of UK and export markets including to the CHP and cement sectors. As a result, SUEZ recycling and recovery UK is now the largest exporter of alternative fuels and has recently been successful in entering non-EU markets for the cement industry. In addition, Andy is also the Chairman of the Wood Recyclers Association in the UK.

Giorgio Ruscito graduated in Engineering and has worked in the coal industry since 1987, dealing with major European power utilities, steel and cement companies as well as representing major global coal producers in the Mediterranean area. He started in the energy sector as a Stress Analyst for nuclear power plant design in 1985-87. From 1987 to 2004 he managed the Agency, Fuel Management and Trading divisions of Coeclerici, a major Italian coal trading company. Since 2004 he has been running his own company, Fuelmed, which has been providing marketing services and consultancy to major Italian and international power companies and developed a website for promoting clean coal technologies in Italy commissioned by ENEA (Italian Energy Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development). Fuelmed provides coal marketing services in the Mediterranean area to a major international commodities trader. Giorgio is Vice-President of Italian Coal Association Assocarboni, and has been a board member of SSC (National Fuels Research Institute). He has also launched one of the most thorough Italian web portals on energy and environment (www.orizzontenergia.it) and nationwide initiatives on energy sustainability issues. Carlos Fernández Alvarez, a Spanish national, joined the International Energy Agency as the Senior Coal Analyst in 2010. He has over twenty five years of experience in the energy sector. He started his career as a project engineer and consultant, involved in design, building, operation and maintenance of power plants. In 2001, after 10 years in the private sector, he became a civil servant with the Spanish Government. As an official at the Secretariat of State of Energy, he participated in many initiatives, among which, the discussions of the Second Gas and Electricity Directives. In 2003, he was appointed Deputy Director for Mining in the Directorate of Energy Policy and Mining. From 2007 until he took up duty at the IEA, he was Director of the Spanish Coal Agency, the body responsible for the coal sector and the alternative development of the coal mining areas in Spain. At the IEA, as the Senior Coal Analyst, he has contributed for many of IEA publications, included the World Energy Outlook, World Energy Investment and a number of country Policy Reviews. He is responsible for the Coal Report publication series (former Medium-Term Market Report).
