Australian metal producer Fortescue will ramp up its 22mn wet metric tonnes (wmt)/yr Iron Bridge magnetite mine to nameplate capacity in the July 2027-June 2028 financial year, it said today.

The company will increase Iron Bridge's production rate to 16mn-20mn wmt in the second half the 2026-27 financial year, before reaching its nameplate capacity in 2027-28, the company said on 22 May.

Fortescue also expects to ship 10mn-12mn wmt of Iron Bridge magnetite concentrate in 2025-26, up from the 5mn-9mn wmt forecast for 2024-25, it added. The company sold 4.7mn wmt of Iron Bridge magnetite over July 2024-March 2025.

Fortescue originally planned to ramp up Iron Bridge to capacity by September 2025, but delayed the timeline in February because of air classifier and bottlenecking issues. The company replaced air classifier linings at Iron Bridge in January-March.

Fortescue also plans to produce 1,500 t/yr of low-carbon iron pellets using hydrogen reduction methods at its Christmas Creek mine from late 2025.
