<article><p class="lead">China's sales and production of electric vehicles (EVs) rose sharply again in July, increasing by 48pc and 54pc from a year earlier to 84,000 and 90,000, respectively. Sales of pure EVs and hybrids rose by 82pc and 161pc to 373,000 and 123,000 units, respectively, in January-July, while production was up by 71pc and 149pc to 382,000 and 122,000. China's government has cancelled or cut subsidies for EVs with ranges below 300km and increased the subsidy for more expensive, longer-range vehicles. The new rates were announced on 12 February. A grace period during which buyers could obtain the old subsidies expired on 11 June.</p></article>
