<article><p class="lead">Flight activity in and out of the cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong province has been reduced this month with a regional Covid-19 outbreak, weighing on jet fuel demand. </p><p>Flights in and out of Guangzhou's Baiyun and Shenzhen's Bao'an, both among China's top five airports by passenger numbers, continue to be cancelled this week. About 630 and 790 flights respectively were cancelled yesterday, according to Chinese flight tracker Variflight. Cancellations today totalled 580 and 800 respectively as of 3pm (07:00 GMT). </p><p>Guangzhou and Shenzhen averaged 1,280 and 1,000 flights daily during April, prior to the regional outbreak from mid-May, with both airports' flight cancellation rate at just around 6.5pc. The south China outbreak has <a href="https://direct.argusmedia.com/newsandanalysis/article/2223965">dragged China's total flight numbers in May down by 4pc</a> compared with the previous month.</p><p>A total of 124 new domestic Covid-19 cases have been found in Guangdong this month as of yesterday, with Guangzhou and Shenzhen recording 104 and 7 cases respectively. Shenzhen was hit by new imported infections last week that <a href="https://direct.argusmedia.com/newsandanalysis/article/2226157">curbed travel activity</a>. </p></article>
