<article><p class="lead">Electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker Steel Dynamics (SDI) is delaying the start-up of its galvanizing line located at its new flat-rolled mill in Texas.</p><p>The galvanizing line was expected to come on line in August, and has now been delayed to September, according to chief executive Mark Millett, who spoke at a steel conference in Atlanta.</p><p>The 550,000 short ton (st)/yr galvanizing line is located in the 3mn st/yr flat-rolled mill, which is being constructed in Sinton, near the port city of Corpus Christi. </p><p>Millett said the mill's 250,000st/yr paint line has already started up. </p><p>The mill has faced delays related to the Covid-19 pandemic, related restrictions and episodes of wet weather that hit the region in recent months, delaying the start-up of the hot side of the mill to November.</p><p>Millett expects the mill to ramp up to 80pc of capacity in 2022 and produce 2.5mn st of flat-rolled steel.</p><p class="bylines">By Rye Druzin</p></article>
