<article><p class="lead">Japan's state-controlled energy agency Jogmec will jointly study carbon capture and storage (CCS), and hydrogen and ammonia production with the government of Alberta province in Canada.</p><p>Jogmec on 26 October signed an agreement with the local government of Alberta province to exchange knowledge and technologies on decarbonisation projects, as well as to cooperate on oil and gas projects.</p><p>Jogmec and the government of Alberta will discuss the legal aspects of CCS and carbon pricing mechanisms, including international standards to measure CO2 emissions, as well as carrying out CCS demonstrations in Canada. Jogmec is considering the use of its CO2 injection technology for CCS, which is currently used for crude oil production.</p><p>The agreement also covers hydrogen and ammonia production, including supply chain operations and shipment from Canada to Japan. It is a comprehensive agreement to enhance the strategic partnership between the countries, and to discuss any sort of ammonia and hydrogen production – grey, blue and green, Jogmec said. </p><p class="bylines">By Maiko Nakashima</p></article>
