<article><p class="lead">Japanese shipping firm NYK has launched a methanol-fuelled chemical tanker to ship mainly methanol for Waterfront Shipping (WFS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Canadian methanol producer Methanex.</p><p>NYK today took delivery of the 30,873 gross tonne, 186m <i>Seymour Sun</i>, which was built by South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. The vessel is equipped with a dual-fuel engine that can run on conventional very low-sulphur fuel oil and methanol as a marine fuel.</p><p>The vessel is also designed to meet the International Maritime Organization's tier three nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions standards. It is equipped with a technology that lowers combustion temperatures by adding water to fuel-use ethanol to cut NOx emissions. </p><p>Shipping operations will be based on a <a href="https://direct.argusmedia.com/newsandanalysis/article/2164718">long-term charter agreement</a> between NYK and WFS that was announced in December 2020.</p><p class="bylines">By Maiko Nakashima</p></article>
