Why Iran

  • Iran's LPG production growth rate is forecast to be 19pc over the period 2015-2020 with 7 refinery development and expansion projects expected to come online by 2025 
  • Iran currently accounts for 17pc of LPG trade in the Middle East, and this is expected to grow to 40pc by 2020
  • Three new LPG separation units at Phase 19 of Iran's South Pars Development Project on stream in January 2017 
  • Iranian LPG exports could increase to 16mn t/yr by the end of this decade. Iran raised exports to over 5.2mn t in 2016, from 4.6mn t in 2015 and made strides into East Asian markets with delivery of its first cargo to Indonesia in October
  • More than 30 new very large gas carriers (VLGCs) will be needed by the end 2017 to ship the country's increasing exports
  • South Korean, Taiwanese, Japanese organisations have announced plans to invest in maximising or expanding their cracking capabilities, underscoring Asian cracker operators’ growing and continued interest in LPG
