Iranian steelmaker Saba Noor Steel has started up a 600,000 t/yr, 68pc Fe iron ore concentrate plant in Asadabad, following a 360bn rials ($13mn) investment programme.
And a 550,000 t/yr pelletising plant is 65pc complete and scheduled to start up in July. An 850,000 t/yr sponge iron manufacturing plant should be inaugurated at the site during the next phase of the project.
Saba Noor Steel will secure the required feedstock for the plant from Baba Ali, in Hamedan, andthe Gulalai mine, in Ghorveh-Kurdistan.
