Brazil's available gas production would more than double in 2032 to 134mn m³/d, according to the ministry of mines and energy and energy research bureau EPE.

The amount does not take into consideration gas that is reinjected into wells and used for flaring and consumption at production sites.

Contingent resources account for 41mn m³/d, which is 31pc of the total available gas estimate. Another 17mn m³/d are undiscovered resources, which are potentially recoverable from known accumulations but are not yet considered commercially recoverable.

Brazil averaged 56mn m³/d of available gas in 2021.

Total Brazilian gas production will reach 323mn m³/d by 2032, a 54mn m³/d increase from the previous estimate. The average total gas production was 134mn m³/d in 2021.

In 2032, 94pc of the total gas production — or 304mn m³/d — will be comprised of gas from discovered production fields. That includes contingent resources, which represent 62mn m³/d of total estimated production.

By Flávia Pierry
