Summit launches Double E gas open season

Houston, 30 January (Argus) — Summit Midstream Partners has launched a non-binding open season for its Double E natural gas pipeline project to move as much as 1.4 Bcf/d (40mn m³/d) from the northern Delaware basin in New Mexico to the Waha hub in west Texas.

The open season will run from 29 January to 2 March, and the primary term for firm transportation service under the project will be 10 years or longer, the company said.

Double E is slated to begin service in the first quarter of 2021.

The pipeline will consist of 120 miles (193km) of 24-26 inch diameter pipe, transporting natural gas from receipt points in the Delaware basin to various delivery points in and around the Waha hub.

Without compression, Double E will have a capacity of 1 Bcf/d, which can be expanded to 1.4 Bcf/d with compression.

The Delaware basin is part of the larger Permian basin, which is experiencing a boom in drilling. The Double E pipeline will move growing associated gas supply to receipt points in the Eddy and Lea counties in New Mexico, as well as in the Loving, Ward, Reeves and Pecos counties in Texas.

At the Waha hub, the gas will have access to multiple current and planned takeaway pipelines to demand centers along the Gulf coast and Mexico.

Depending on the results of this open season, the company said it may determine that multiple projects may be pursued instead of a single project.
