Dale Edgington gained his BS degree in Agricultural Economics from Michigan State University and began his career in the fertilizer industry in 1985. The first half of his career was spent in retail operations, marketing fertilizers, pesticides, seeds and related services to farmers in Michigan. Dale served as Agronomist for Crop Production Services in Michigan, ushering in the use of GPS guided technologies for soil testing and variable rate application of fertilizers. In 2003, Dale transitioned to the micronutrient fertilizer manufacturing business where he has been ever since. Responsibilities include purchasing and formulating various fertilizer products with the elements nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese, copper, boron, iron and zinc. The business was owned by Agrium, U.S. Inc. until April of 2015 when it was sold to another long standing micronutrient manufacturer, Cameron Chemicals from the state of Virginia.

His research focuses on the economics of agricultural technology, especially precision agriculture. He has been published 85 times in referred journals, and has written two books and chapters in eight other books. His research and outreach is founded on hands-on experience in agriculture - he farmed in the US state of Iowa in the 1970s, producing maize, lamb, wool and alfalfa. His current projects focus on a better understanding of variability within the landscape to optimise plant growth for local conditions, maximising resource use efficiency and biomass utility in farming systems. This includes concepts of circular agriculture in e.g. Europe and China, but also optimized fertilizer recommendations combined with good agronomy in smallholder farming systems of Africa.

The company is involved in the production and sale of traditional sea salt and fleur de sel, as well as the production of microalgae for aquaculture and cosmetics. He is also co-founder of Algae for Future, an international reference company in the microalgae technologies sector. His business experience is wide and ranges from engineering consulting and real estate to biotechnology and medical devices.
