Mike Pompeo is the first American to have served as both Secretary of State and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). During his time in office, the world witnessed the emergence of the US as a massive energy exporter, and a realignment of US foreign policy to put America first. He also oversaw a shift in Washington’s relations with China, including the implementation of a wide-ranging trade deal. As Director of the CIA, Mike delivered intelligence to inform the decision making of America's senior leaders. Four times, Kansas elected Mike to represent their 4th Congressional District as a member of the US House of Representatives. In Congress, he served on the Energy and Commerce Committee, the House Intelligence Committee, and the Special Committee that investigated the death of four Americans during the attack on two US government facilities in Benghazi, Libya, in 2012.
As a teenager, Mike enrolled at the West Point Military Academy. He graduated first in his class in 1986 and then served as a cavalry officer patrolling the Iron Curtain. He also served with the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry in the Fourth Infantry Division. After leaving active duty, Mike graduated from Harvard Law School, where he edited the Harvard Law Review.
Mike later returned to his mother's family roots in Kansas and founded Thayer Aerospace, which manufactures components for commercial and military aircraft, serving as Chief Executive for over half a decade. He then became President of Sentry International, an oil field equipment and service company.
