He spent major part of his career at Pakistan’s National Agricultural Research Center, where, finally, he served as Director General. He has published his research effectively, locally and globally, in journals, books, conferences and technology transfer materials. He is recipient of many prestigious international honors and awards, likeitreIPNI IFA Norman Borlaug Award and IPNI Science Award. His current R&D is on micronutrient biofortification of staple cereals to combat ‘hidden hunger’ in resource-poor societies.

After military service he joined DSM where he worked first seven years as a Process Engineer in an ethylene plant during which he was involved in several turnarounds and revamp projects. In 1996 he joined Stamicarbon as Licensing Manager Urea Revamps. Later he became Manager Stamicarbon Services responsible for all Stamicarbon’s activities in existing urea plants, such as After Sales, Plant Inspections, Debottlenecking Projects, Hardware supply projects etc. In these nearly fifteen years he did visit about one hundred urea plants worldwide and was involved in numerous revamp, relocation, debottlenecking and grass root projects. Since January 1, 2009, Mark Brouwer left Stamicarbon and started up UreaKnowHow.com. UreaKnowHow.com’s mission is to support, facilitate and promote the exchange of technical information in the urea industry with the target to improve the Safety and Performance of all urea plants worldwide.

Prof. Al-Hajhoj graduated from King Faisal University (KFU), Saudi Arabia. He received his M.Sc. from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA and obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Reading, UK. Prof. Al-Hajhoj is currently working as a Professor of Horticulture, College of Agriculture and Food Sciences and the Director, Date Palm Research Center of Excellence (DPRC). He is also an Acting Director of Water Studies Centre. He also worked as Dean of Student Affairs and Chairman of Student Fund Council. He is supervising various research programs at DPRC. His interest areas are soil amendments, date palm physiology, and water conservation. Besides, Prof. Al-Hajhoj has been serving in various academic and community programs.
