The Argus Fertilizer Africa Awards returns in-person for its third year in a row. Join clients and colleagues for our awards reception on Monday 19 February 2024.

Argus is pleased to announce the categories for the 2024 Argus Fertilizer Africa Awards, based around the core themes of innovation, sustainability and business resilience of the conference, seeking to recognise and celebrate achievements in the industry over the past 12 months. 

Given recent global events and the implications of this for the global fertilizer market, and in particular for Africa, it is more important than ever to recognise and celebrate companies and individuals who have excelled and demonstrated commitment and innovation across diverse areas of the African fertilizer value chain.

The Awards categories

  

Woman of the year in fertilizers - Individual award

Woman 
  • This award recognises women based in Africa who have demonstrated outstanding contribution to ensuring access to, affordability and sustainability of fertilizers over the past year. 
  • In 300-400 words*, entries should demonstrate how their initiatives and work have had a positive impact on the fertilizer market in Africa, demonstrating originality and innovation in their work, entries must detail how their activities have had a positive impact in the industry.  
  • Judges are looking for inspiring entries from women who have added value to the fertilizer industry and the people that work in it during the most challenging of times.

Africa First: Outstanding contribution to food security – Individual award

 Security  
  • This award recognises individuals working in the private or public sector or individuals that have shown commitment to ensuring food security in the Africa, including engagement with stakeholders across the value chain to ensure access, affordability and use of fertilizers during challenging times.  
  • In 300-400 words*, entries should demonstrate how their initiatives and activities have contributed to sustaining food security in Africa in the past twelve months, including examples of any positive impact on farmers’ productivity and livelihoods, or other ways in which continuity of access to fertilizers has been maintained with a view to ensuring sustainability of agricultural production. 
  • Entries should showcase success and leadership in adapting to changes in trade flows, opening up of new supply sources and demand centres in support of fertilizer industry and local economies and agricultural production.
  • Judges are looking for examples of innovation, resilience and sustainability despite the challenging market environment, including effective engagement with stakeholders across the value chain.

Made in Africa: SME business award – Individual award

 Made in Africa: SME business award
  • Recognising individuals driving forward new and thriving enterprises headquartered in Africa (small to medium sized businesses  
  • In 300-400 words*, entries should demonstrate, by providing examples of their work and evidence of how their initiatives and engagement with stakeholders has had a net positive impact on communities and those operating in the market in the long term. 
  • Judges are looking for examples of leadership and stewardship in leading sustainability initiatives as well as innovation in approach.

The last mile: African supply chain integrity award - Company award

Supply chain 
  • This award recognises companies that have enabled affordable transition and access to fertilizer products across Africa, whether within a specific region or country, in the last 12 months. A company that has strived to offer an overall excellence in customer service, operational efficiency and one which has looked to build long-term sustainable relationships with a view to ensuring access to fertilizers.   
  • In 300-400 words*, applicants will need to provide evidence and examples of challenges faced in terms of logistics, high price environment and other logistical challenges, what solutions were found or implemented to overcome or mitigate them and the outcomes for the end-customer. 
  • Judges are looking for examples of collaborations in the fertilizer sector that can demonstrate a positive impact in any of the links in the supply chain. This award recognises companies or individuals that have shown commitment to engage with agro-dealers and farmers to improve access, affordability and use of fertilizers through outreach program, education or collaboration.

Agri-tech innovator of the year - Start up challenge – Company award

 Innovation
  • This category recognises and celebrates those companies, who have excelled at developing and deploying innovative technology contributing to better access to, affordability and sustainability of fertilizers in Africa in the last 12 months. Entrants must demonstrate that they have developed new technology, deployed technology successfully or played a key role in its uptake across the industry. 
  • In 300-400 words*, applicants will need to provide evidence or case study of how their technology or product/company has contributed to improving access to, affordability or sustainability of fertilizer products, highlighting how they approached product development, and why and how their technology has contributed positively to the agricultural value chain. Evidence could include statistics 
  • Winners should showcase examples of digital innovation that have had a positive impact on agricultural productivity in Africa.
  • Judges will consider businesses launched in the past 3-5 years and based in Africa.
  • Shortlisted entries will be invited to participate in lightning round pitches taking place during the Argus Fertilizer Africa conference.

How to nominate a company or individual for an award 

In no more than 300 words, please tell the judges why your entry should win based on the criteria below. It is important that you explain this in a clear, cohesive manner, with evidence where appropriate. Applicants are welcome to nominate themselves or their own company for judges’ consideration. Multiple nominations are also accepted.

You may send supporting material for consideration via email to conferences@argusmedia.com after you have submitted this form. Supporting material can include web links, videos, photographs and other documents. You do not have to submit supporting material for your nomination but if you do you should include the following information in your email subject line:

  • The category you are entering.
  • The name of the company, or the name, job title, and company name of the nominated individual 

Nominations for the awards should be submitted by Friday 15 December 2023 after which they will be judged by our expert panel based on the criteria described below. Winners will be invited to attend the award ceremony.  

Judges will be announced soon. Argus will remain impartial and independent of any decisions. The judging process will also be impartial with no payment by any organisation or outside individual.
