Head of Fuel, Bioenergy and Thermal Power, Ørsted
Søren joined Orsted in 2017, having worked at Swedish utility for Vattenfall 11 years, the last five of which he spent as Head of Global Commodities, based in Amsterdam. He was previously Head of Fuel at Energy E2, a former utility in eastern Denmark. Soren has also held various positions in the energy sector and EU Commission.

Harold Arnold

Harold Arnold has been involved in the forest industry his entire working life. He spent more than 23 years in the Forest Resources Division of Hercules and held the position of Western Region Superintendent prior to his leaving Hercules in 1995. Harold Arnold has been involved in the forest industry his entire working life. He spent more than 23 years in the Forest Resources Division of Hercules and held the position of Western Region Superintendent prior to his leaving Hercules in 1995. Harold joined Fram Renewable Fuels in October 2005. His industry knowledge led to the development of Fram’s first wood pellet facility in Baxley, Georgia. Appling County Pellets was constructed and began producing in late 2007. As the industry continues to grow, Harold is enhancing Fram’s profile to further develop the wood pellet industry in the southeast US.

Danny’s knowledge extends beyond the intricacies of the circular ecosystem. Fabien Méhu runs the biomass trading department within GDF Suez. He has worked in commodity markets for 12 years, having held various positions within the GDF Suez group. Fabien first worked in Paris for five years in the gas and LNG business before taking a power assets management and renewable certificate origination position in the UK. Fabien joined the Brussels-based coal, freight and biomass division in 2012, and became Head of Biomass Trading in 2014. He holds a postgraduate degree in mathematics, economy and finance from the University of Sciences and Economy of Paris.

Christian Joore is a senior commodity trading professional with over 20 years of extensive financial and physical trading experience in the global energy markets. He is currently heading commercial and business development activities in Vattenfall’s merchant Biomass & Freight trading department. His role includes the optimisation of sustainable biomass flows from suppliers to internal and external customers, and increasing value creation through the development of upstream and downstream partnerships. Prior to joining Vattenfall, Christian worked as an energy trader for Essent Trading in the Netherlands and later for RWE Supply and Trading in Switzerland, managing various cross-commodity proprietary positions and asset-backed energy portfolios. Christian holds an MBA degree from the University of Groningen.

Manolis Karampinis is Director of Business Development and Membership in Bioenergy Europe since October 2022, responsible for the growth of the association’s network and activities. His duties in Bioenergy Europe also include the management of the European Pellet Council (EPC), the network of national pellet and biomass associations and the coordination of the Working Groups on Pellets and Agrobiomass. Manolis is a Chemical Engineer and holds a MSc. in Energy Generation and Management from the National Technical University of Athens. He has been involved in the bioenergy sector since 2006, focusing – among others – in large-scale and industrial bioenergy applications and mobilization of under-utilized biomass feedstocks, such as agrobiomass. Manolis worked for 16 years as research associate at Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), involved in numerous EU funded projects related to technical developments and market uptake of the bioenergy sector. Since 2017, he has served as a board member of Hellabiom – the Greek Biomass Association – and from 2019 to 2022 in the Board of Directors of Bioenergy Europe.

Christian Rakos has been President of the World Bioenergy Association since May 2020. He is Chief Executive of Save Energy Austria, a company producing and trading energy efficiency certificates. Christian was President of the European Pellet Council in 2010-16 and since mid-2005 has been an Executive Director for Austrian pellet industry association ProPellets Austria. In 2004-05 he worked at the Irish Renewable Energy Information Office as European Projects Manager. Christian joined the Austrian Energy Agency in 1998 where he was responsible for renewable energies with a special focus on bioenergy. Between 1988 and 1998 he worked at the Institute for Technology Assessment at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Oskar has been with SkyNRG since 2016. As leader of the future fuels team, he heads up the company’s pre-commercial supply chain development projects, wherein they work to commercialise new SAF pathways. The projects are twofold. On one hand, they work with technology partners to scale technology pathways, such as building a pilot or demonstration-scale SAF production facility. On the other, the future fuels team works on the initial phases of new commercial SAF capacity development opportunities worldwide. Oskar studied energy science at Utrecht University, specialising in sustainable aviation fuels. He also studied investments in the SAF supply chain at Imperial College London during his graduation.

He has been involved in many types of committees, from making new EN standards for pellet burners to distributing government grants. Bengt-Erik provides a link between researchers in universities and business, and between government and end users.
