Bioenergy Europe (formerly known as AEBIOM) is the voice of European bioenergy. It aims to develop a sustainable bioenergy market based on fair business conditions. Founded in 1990, Bioenergy Europe is a non-profit, Brussels-based international organisation bringing together more than 40 associations and 110 private companies, as well as academia and research institutes from across Europe. For more information on the association or how to become a member visit the website: www.bioenergyeurope.org
USIPA is a not-for-profit trade association promoting sustainability and safety practices within the US wood energy industry. We advocate for the wood energy sector as a smart solution to climate change, and we support renewable energy policy development around the globe. Our members represent all aspects of the wood pellet export industry, including pellet producers, traders, equipment manufacturers, bulk shippers, and service providers. USIPA was formed 2011 by several industry founders, including Enviva, Georgia Biomass, and The Westervelt Company.
The Wood Pellet Association of Canada is a member-driven organization advancing the interests of Canadian wood pellet producers. Our goal is to help members grow through promoting the role of wood pellets in the Canadian and global markets, supporting market and technical research, and encouraging fair and open energy trade. Membership is open to Canadian pellet producers, as well as suppliers and partners (associate membership).
The European Pellet Council (EPC) is the voice of the wood pellet sector in Europe. Its members are national pellet associations or related organisations from 18 countries. EPC was founded in 2010 and is a network of Bioenergy Europe. EPC is the platform of the European pellet sector dedicated to solving the issues attached to the transition from a niche product to a major energy commodity ranging from standardisation and certification through to the quality of pellet-using devices amongst others. EPC manages the ENplus® scheme; the world leading wood pellet quality scheme.
The International Biomass Torrefaction Council (IBTC) is a Brussels based international platform founded in 2012, which brings together more than 20 companies from all over the world. The IBTC initiative resulted from the joint efforts of major torrefied biomass stakeholders who created the common global platform dedicated to companies with shared interest. IBTC works to develop the use of torrefied biomass for energy worldwide, create favourable market conditions for its members and update them on relevant business initiatives. By creating a business torrefaction network, IBTC aims at facilitating the supply of samples to consumers.
AIEL, the Italian Agroforestry Energy Association, is the association of companies operating along the wood-energy supply chain: from producers of wood biofuels (wood, wood chips, pellets) to producers of technologies to transform these biofuels into heat and energy (stoves, inserts fireplace, boilers, cogeneration groups). The aim is to guarantee the correct and sustainable energy valorisation of agroforestry biomasses, in particular wood biofuels at all levels, from the forest to the fireplace.
ENplus® is a world-leading, transparent and independent certification scheme for wood pellets. From the early stages of production to the delivery process, we guarantee quality and combat fraud along the entire supply chain. Our rigorous requirements are enforced by a network of independent auditors and partners, ensuring reliability and transparency. As of March 2020, ENplus® has more than 1000 certified companies from 46 countries around the globe and over 12 million tonnes of certified pellets.
GoodChips® is the first international quality certification for wood chips and hog fuel, it is the result of a concerted effort with all components of the sector, from producers to traders, through boiler manufacturers and consumer associations. The result of this effort is a 12-class scheme (8 for wood chips and 4 for hog fuel), addressing every profile of producer and end-user, from industrial to domestic use. GoodChips® creates a fair, harmonised, and transparent market for wood chips and hog fuel, where best practices are distinguished through a certification that covers products, processes, and quality management.
The Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme (SURE) is an international certification system that is intended to ensure the sustainability of biomass usage for electricity and heat generation in accordance with the standard set by EU Directive 2018/2001/EC (“RED II”) and to document the corresponding greenhouse gas savings. SURE is aimed at biomass (cogeneration) power plants, biogas and biomethane plant operators, and all of the economic operators in the upstream chains.
