Implications and strategies for success

Sectoral impacts | Compliance strategies | Market outlook

Our full-day training workshop equipped stakeholders across affected sectors with the insights and tools needed to navigate the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). With critical updates from the European Commission expected by December, this training day took place at a pivotal moment for businesses preparing for the next phase of CBAM implementation.

Rotterdam served as a practical and accessible location for the training, offering excellent transport links and proximity to key industrial hubs affected by CBAM. Its central role in European trade and logistics made it an ideal setting for cross-sector collaboration and discussion.

Building on Argus' successful CBAM webinar series, this in-person training day expanded on key themes and questions raised by participants, offering deeper sectoral insights and practical guidance. As CBAM moves toward its definitive phase in 2026 and certificate purchasing begins in 2027, understanding the evolving regulatory landscape remains essential. This workshop provided a timely opportunity to:

  • Decode the latest CBAM developments and compliance requirements
  • Explore sector-specific impacts and strategic responses
  • Engage directly with experts and peers across industries

Open to importers, producers, traders, compliance officers, sustainability leads and strategic planners, this event was relevant to all sectors currently affected by CBAM - including fertilizers, steel and iron, aluminium and hydrogen.

What attendees gained:

A clear introduction to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism - its purpose, origins and role in EU climate policy. Perfect for newcomers needing a structured overview, and a useful refresher for experienced participants to align with the latest updates and interpretations.
An understanding of the latest CBAM updates expected from the European Commission in December, and how they will shape compliance strategies heading into 2026.
Deep dives into key sectors including fertilizers and metals - helping you assess risks and opportunities unique to your operations, and understand what learnings have been made so far in these two majorly affected sectors.
An exploration into financial planning techniques, carbon price forecasting, and risk mitigation strategies tailored to CBAM’s evolving framework.
Direct engagement with Argus analysts and CBAM specialists throughout the day and during the dedicated Q&A sessions.
The opportunity to connect with peers across industries impacted by CBAM, fostering collaboration and shared learning.
