Egypt receives first Qatari LNG cargo since crisis

Egypt's state-owned gas company Egas is receiving its first Qatari LNG cargo today since the cutting of diplomatic ties with Qatar.

The 162,000m³ Golar Glacier arrived in Egypt last night and is currently delivering to Egypt's second floating LNG storage and regasification unit (FSRU), the 170,000m³ BW Singapore, which has been relocated south to the port of Sumed. Switzerland-based trading house Trafigura is understood to be delivering the cargo to Egas. A second cargo loaded with LNG from Qatar could deliver to Egypt tomorrow on board the 160,000m³ Golar Celsius, also on behalf of Trafigura. The cargo is sailing through the Red Sea and is scheduled to arrive at its final destination tomorrow.

The 140,000m³ Galicia Spirit departed Qatar's 77mn t/yr Ras Laffan facility on Wednesday, and as of yesterday was declaring for delivery to Egypt's port of Sumed on 16 June.

The spat between Egypt and Qatar was unlikely to stop LNG deliveries, but the move of Egypt's second FSRU may have disrupted shipments. The moving of the BW Singapore FSRU south from Ain Sukhna to the port of Sumed is unrelated to the ongoing political dispute and was likely arranged months ago.
