Australia-based lithium developer Argosy Minerals plans to release by the end of December a preliminary economic assessment, an upgraded mineral resource and an offtake agreement for stage one of its Rincon lithium brine project in Argentina.

It will also continue with an industrial-scale pilot plant to produce battery grade lithium carbonate equivalent following the production of 500kg of sample product in the July-September quarter, the company said. The October-December quarter will advance the development of a commercial-scale processing plant and the construction of evaporation ponds for the second stage of Rincon.

Battery-grade lithium carbonate equivalent produced at Rincon has confirmed that the project's chemical process is suitable and scalable for commercial production.

The first stage of Rincon comprises a mineral resource of 207,957t of lithium carbonate equivalent that is in the process of being upgraded. The project is situated in the so-called "lithium triangle" that straddles parts of Argentina, Chile and Bolivia.
