Atlanta-based aluminum sheet producer Novelis will invest $175mn to expand rolling and recycling capabilities at its largest South American mill in Brazil's Paraíba Valley between São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The additions will boost the facility's annual rolling capacity by 100,000t to 680,000 t/yr and its aluminum scrap recycling capacity by 60,000t to 450,000 t/yr.

Construction will begin on the Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, plant in February with work expected to be complete by 2021.

The company will also install a new water sourcing system and purchase about 90 acres of nearby land for potential future growth.
