Polish fertilizer output continues rise in April

Polish fertilizer production continued to rise strongly on the year in April, government data show.

The data provided is in terms of nutrient, rather than product, tonnes.

Output of nitrogen, phosphate and potash nutrients reached a combined total of 278,000t in April, a 15pc increase on the year, and up by 1pc on the month. In January-April, Poland produced nearly 1.09mn t of these three nutrients, an 11pc year-on-year increase.

Production of nitrogen rose by 13pc on the year and by 1pc on the month to 198,000t in April. January-April production reached 768,000t, up by 9pc year on year.

April production of phosphate-based fertilizers surged by almost one third year on year in terms of nutrient content, and by 6pc on the month, to nearly 44,000t. The four-month total was 169,000t, up by 22pc year on year.

Output of potash as a nutrient rose by 9pc on the year, but was steady on the month, at 36,000t in April. January-April production reached 149,000t, an 11pc year-on-year rise.

After an inactive beginning to the year, Polish demand for fertilizers strengthened in mid-February, before the market fell quiet again in April, with buyers well covered.
