Marine fuel sales at Singapore port in August reached 3.67mn t, down by 209,000t from July and 294,000t against a year earlier, according to provisional data from Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA).
This was the eight consecutive month of falling bunker sales compared with a year earlier. Bunker sales were down by 2.1mn t or 7.42pc during January-August compared with the same period last year.
Argus reported an average of 25 bunker deals each day in August, up from 21 in July.
Consumption of 380cst high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) fell to 2.71mn t (17.5mn bl) in August from 2.78mn t in July. Sales of the higher viscosity 500cst HSFO fell to the lowest monthly total this year at 510,000t.
Demand for low-sulphur marine gasoil rose slightly to 219,000t (1.6mn bl) in August from 217,000t in July.
Singapore's delivered 380cst HSFO prices averaged $382/t in August, down from $450 in July, data collected by Argus showed.
An estimated 3,423 vessels called at Singapore to refuel in August, up from 3,384 vessels during the previous month, according to MPA.
