Qatari shipowner Nakilat has taken receipt of a newbuild LNG carrier — the first of four slated for delivery in 2020-21.
The 173,400m³ Global Energy was delivered from South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) to Global Shipping — a 60:40 venture between Nakilat and Greece's Maran Gas Maritime — Nakilat said.
The venture is scheduled to receive three more new carriers from DSME in 2020-21, the owner added. They will have a similar design capacity to the Global Energy, and will be fitted with either MEGI or XDF two-stroke propulsion.
Delivery of the Global Energy brings Nakilat's jointly owned LNG fleet to 37 vessels, with a further 29 wholly owned by the firm. Nakilat also owns the 150,900m³ Exquisite floating storage and regasification unit with US firm Excelerate Energy, which is installed at Pakistan's Port Qasim.
