The UK has decided not to impose a mandatory target for greenhouse gas (GHG) savings in transport next year.

Under the UK's Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO), obligated suppliers were set a 6pc GHG reduction in fuels target this year and 4pc last year. But the Department for Transport (DfT) said time constraints and complex legal issues related to the UK's exit from the EU mean a target will not be implemented in 2021.

Under the RTFO, suppliers of transport and non-road mobile machinery fuel in the UK must be able to show that a percentage of the fuel they supply comes from renewable and sustainable sources. It applies to those that supply at least 450,000 litres/yr.
