Phillips 66 plans to add 9,000 b/d of renewable diesel production at its 120,000 b/d San Francisco refining complex in California.

The US independent refiner plans to convert a hydrotreater at the refinery to process renewable feedstocks. Phillips 66 has not given a timeline for completion.

The company already produces 1,000 b/d of renewable diesel at its 221,000 b/d Humber, UK refinery, with plans to expand supply logistics to raise production to 4,000 b/d. Phillips 66 has an agreement with Ryze Renewables to supply and take full production from at least 15,000 b/d of renewable diesel from two Nevada facilities still under construction.

Refiners have maintained plans to expand renewable diesel production even while slashing other capital spending to save cash under demand forced lower by efforts to limit the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
