Additional uptake at second Greek LNG auction phase

Greek system operator Desfa allocated additional LNG capacity at the 3.6mn t/yr Revithoussa terminal during the second phase of its auction process for next year, the operator told Argus.

Around 25-30pc of the terminal's capacity was booked during phase B of the auction process, which ended on 25 November, the system operator told Argus. Only firms that reserved standard slots during phase A could book complementary capacity during phase B, with five out of the seven participating firms in the first auction taking part, the firm said.

Desfa had awarded 35 slots of the 46 available for next year during the initial phase.

Complementary capacity — which includes bundled regasification and grid entry capacities — will be combined with capacity allocated in phase A into a continuous annual capacity product.

By giving firms access to continuous capacity that will not be interrupted by other users' slots, terminal users can better optimise their portfolios and avoid higher costs resulting from short-term bookings, Desfa said.

State-owned Depa, gas supplier Prometheus Gas, conglomerate Mytilineos, refiner Motor Oil Hellas and utilities PPC, Elpedison and Heron were awarded slots for 2021, according to the operator's final annual unloading schedule.

It was the first time that the annual scheduling process was conducted through auctions, after Desfa's latest proposal was approved by Greek regulator RAE in mid-November.
