Spain increases 2030 target for H2 vehicles

Spain has introduced a range in its minimum target for hydrogen-powered vehicles on its roads by 2030 in its recovery, transformation and resilience plan.

Lodged with Brussels on 30 April, the plan points to a more aggressive rollout of hydrogen vehicle production and filling stations.

The country is now targeting at least 5,000-7,500 hydrogen-powered light and heavy vehicles on its roads in 2030 together with 150-200 buses powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

Spain's previous hydrogen roadmap to 2030 released in October gave forecasts for at least 5,000 cars, vans and trucks and 150 buses powered by the fuel.

The country's roadmap also includes estimates of 300-600MW of electrolysis capacity dedicated to green hydrogen production in 2024 with a target to increase this to 4GW in 2030, together with a target for 25pc of industrial demand for hydrogen to be met with green hydrogen by the end of the decade.
