Greek shipowner Gaslog has taken receipt of a newbuild LNG carrier — the 180,000m³ Gaslog Wellington — from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

The vessel, which will sail under a term charter with US operator Cheniere, is the second LNG carrier delivered to the company this year after the 174,000m³ Gaslog Galveston, which is also chartered by Cheniere and was delivered by SHI in January. The Greek shipowner has so far received three of the four vessels that will go on charter with Cheniere, with the 174,000m³ Gaslog Winchester set to be delivered in August. Gaslog took delivery of the 180,000m³ Gaslog Windsor in April 2020.

A total of seven LNG carriers are expected to join the global LNG fleet in June, with Greek owners Minerva Marine, Alpha Gas, Maran Gas and Capital Gas set to receive a carrier this month.

But LNG carrier deliveries could slow in the third quarter, with a total of 12 carriers scheduled for delivery.
