Denmark's Celsius Shipping has received its third LNG carrier — the 180,000m³ Celsius Charlotte — from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).
The newbuild carrier left the South Korean shipyard today, according to tracking data from analytics firm Vortexa, suggesting that it has been delivered to Celsius Shipping. The vessel will sail under a term charter with US operator Cheniere and is the second LNG carrier received by Celsius Shipping this year, after the 180,000m³ Celsius Canberra, which is also chartered by Cheniere, was delivered by SHI in January.
Celsius Shipping has one LNG carrier remaining on its orderbook, also tied to a term charter with Cheniere, with delivery scheduled for August. The firm received its first LNG carrier from SHI in October, which was chartered to trading firm Gunvor's shipping subsidiary Clearlake.
There have been 27 newbuild LNG carriers added to the global fleet this year, with another 30 expected to be delivered over the remainder of 2021. There were around 32 delivered last year.
