The number of passengers using Australia's busiest airport of Sydney dropped to a four-month low in June because of state border closures with New South Wales following a Covid-19 outbreak.

Passenger volumes were also affected by the suspension of quarantine-free travel between Australia and New Zealand as a result of the Sydney outbreak. Australia-New Zealand passenger traffic had returned to more than 40pc of the corresponding period in 2019 prior to this suspension, Sydney Airport said.

The drop in Sydney passenger volumes in June were the lowest since the 623,000 passengers that transited through the airport in February.
