A mainline segment of Kinder Morgan's 700,000 b/d Products (SE) Pipe Line system — formerly known as Plantation — was out of service today because of a power loss caused by Hurricane Ida.

The company confirmed today the mainlines of the system between Collins, Mississippi, and Greensboro, North Carolina, were shut while crews worked to restore power at its Baton Rouge terminal.

Kinder Morgan expected service along the segment to resume tomorrow, while deliveries along the rest of the network continued normally.

The pipeline moves refined products from Louisiana to Virginia. Colonial pipeline, which also moves refined products from the US Gulf coast to the Atlantic coast, resumed service last night after a disruption.

Ida came ashore as a Category 4 hurricane in south-central Louisiana on 29 August, bringing 150mph (240km/h) winds along with storm surge and heavy rainfall.

About 865,000 customers in Louisiana and Mississippi were without power as of today. Electrical utility Entergy said it restored power to 9pc of customers who lost service during the hurricane, which knocked out eight transmission lines, a transmission tower and a few generating plants in the New Orleans area. Grid assessments will continue tomorrow.
