Oman has rescheduled some international and domestic flights to and from the sultanate's biggest airport, Muscat International Airport, amid adverse weather conditions due to tropical storm Shaheen.
Oman's airport authority made the announcement a short while ago as the storm intensified and was approaching Oman's Al-Batinah South governorate. The UAE's National Center of Meteorology said wind speeds strengthened to 120-139km/h late on 2 October.
According to the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Shaheen is expected to make landfall along Oman's northern coast, close to the city of Sohar - the site of Omani state-owned OQ's 198,000 b/d capacity refinery. Should the storm turn north, it could have an impact on the UAE port of Fujairah, the world's third largest bunkering hub.
A temporary suspension of some flights is unlikely to have any material impact on the jet fuel market, although that will depend on how long these suspensions will last. At 13,000 b/d, Oman's demand for jet fuel remains weak, still around 32pc down on the year in the January-August 2021 period, and down 72.5pc on the corresponding period in 2019. But air travel and jet fuel demand was likely given a boost with the lifting of a ban on passengers arriving from around 20 countries starting on 1 September.
