US steelmaker Nucor has restarted its direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Trinidad and Tobago after a planned maintenance.

The 1.7mn metric tonne/yr plant was brought back on line on 20 October after being down since before 14 October, when Nucor confirmed the maintenance outage.

The 35,000t Curacao Pearl is now docked at the Trinidad plant in Point Lisas, suggesting shipments will resume imminently, according to vessel tracking data.

The last Trinidad DRI shipment bound for the US left Point Lisas on 18 September on the 35,000t Norway Pearl, arriving in Charleston, South Carolina, on 28 September.

The US imported 155,000t of DRI from Trinidad in September, but no shipments have arrived in or are en route to the US for October, according to Argus estimates.
