Dubai-based shipping services provider GAC Bunker Fuels and biofuels producer Neutral Fuels have signed an initial agreement to market a marine biodiesel blend that has been specifically developed for shipping clients in the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and India.

Neutral Fuels partnered with UAE-based refiner Uniper last year to blend Uniper's very-low sulphur fuel oil with Neutral Fuel's used cooking oil-based biodiesel to create a bunker fuel, meeting IMO standards and helping cut CO2 emissions.

The firms will co-operate to expand the number of supply points throughout the Middle East and Africa to accelerate the decarbonisation of a sector essential to global trade, Neutral Fuels said.

"Deploying Net Zero biofuel in the maritime sector will play a key role in helping to achieve the new carbon emission reduction targets set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)," Neutral Fuels' chief commercial officer Gary Hubbard said.
